Celebrating Independent Record stores: The background to Record Store Day

Started in the States in 2007, the bi-annual event now runs in many countries around the world. Happily, it has also made its way to over 250 stores the UK and, specifically, to our Store in Selby!

In the UK Record Store Day (#RSDUK) is held in April and every Black Friday in November.

Originally, the day was conceived to “celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store”. Artists even produce bespoke releases and special vinyl editions to add to the excitement.

This year’s issues include a white vinyl reissue of Chesney Hawkes’ ‘The One and Only”;  ‘Wish’ –  2 LP Picture discs from The Cure; ‘Everybody’, a newly releases=d 7” from Madonna  and an 8 LP box set from Fleetwood Mac

The releases are only available in-store and cannot be reserved or pre-ordered. So be prepared for queues, excitement and a race to find your favourite.
